Situation
Carney’s supports young people who face poverty, are in the care system, families misusing substances, domestic abuse and many who have been excluded from school or involved in the criminal justice system. Our young people face the inequity of more challenging life experiences relating to finance, home life, mental and physical health, paired with less access to support systems. This means they face greater barriers and often don’t have the skills needed to flourish in adult life.
Solution
Our workshops will provide young people with the skills and tools to support their development, including how to navigate health and mental health, bike maintenance and cycling, skills for employability and life skills such as cooking and money. Our bike workshop runs Thursdays, teaching young people bike mechanics and employability skills. Every Monday and Wednesday evening we run workshops, with guest experts, on a range of topics, based on the needs that the young people have identified.
