Ecovillages provide functional solutions to the current complex crisis – environmental destruction woven together with the societal breakdown, injustice, economic vulnerability of local and indigenous communities, and cultural loss. To respond to the challenges, we need robust community-led actions for radical regeneration. Ecovillages redesign the societal model holistically –from ecological solutions and alternative economies to social structures– and offer a radical response to the crisis.

GEN facilitates scaling of ecovillage-based approaches for environmental and social restoration locally and globally. We link existing initiatives for mutual support, sharing best practices; we support new ecovillages; provide education and capacity building; work with local, regional and national authorities; engage in post-disaster regions for community-led rebuilding; foster fundamental behaviour shifts in community for systemic change; and advocate for it at national and international levels
