Situation
Wetlands are one of the world's most threatened habitats. They’re disappearing 3x faster than forests and we’ve lost 75% in the UK in the past 300 years. Despite the fact 40% of the world's wildlife rely on them, they protect us against flooding and are proven to improve people's wellbeing. Wetlands are a fantastic carbon store too. But if they are destroyed or degraded, they can have the opposite effect and release carbon and other greenhouse gases back into the atmosphere.
Solution
Wetlands are nature’s superheroes – carbon-storing, species-saving and life-giving. You'll help us carry out essential work to make our wetland sites more resilient to the threats of climate change and support all our work to restore more wetlands. Including: • Carefully managing ditches and fast-growing scrub to allow balanced sites for nature. • Improving biodiversity to protect our native wildlife and adapting for pioneer species. • Conducting scientific research and surveys to monitor our impact.
