Situation
Total UK Food Surplus from retail and manufacturing stands at 3.6Million tonnes per annum, or 7.2% of production according to WRAP, contributing hugely to CO2 emissions and wasted resources whilst impacting negatively on climate Meanwhile the UK Government's most recent research highlights that 7.2 million people or 11% of the UK's population live in households experiencing food insecurity including 17% of children.
Solution
TBBT partners directly with the food industry to repurpose surplus food. Our daily collections rescue the food they can’t sell, but which is still perfectly edible and full of nutrition. We sort the products in our warehouse to provide these groceries as the equivalent of a weekly shop to 7000 struggling families every week of the year across 135 locations based in deprived communities. Our model prevents food insecurity with guaranteed nutritious fresh food for low income families.
