The Koala, one of Australia's most iconic animals, is at risk of extinction. Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) protects nearly 4,000 hectares of critical Koala habitat, forming part of a key wildlife corridor for threatened species in NSW. You can help us save the Koala by donating today.

Koalas are at increasing risk of extinction. Intense wildfires, feral predators, habitat loss due to climate change and urbanisation are just some of the risks their declining population faces. The 2019–2020 catastrophic bushfires are estimated to have burned 9% of habitat in New South Wales (NSW) where the Koala is known or likely to occur. It is critical to protect high quality Koala habitat from major threats before further numbers are lost.

In 2022, AWC began conducting research at Waulinbakh Wildlife Sanctuary, a native forest containing 3,970 hectares of rich, dense rainforest gullies in the Hunter region. Its location, recognised by the NSW Government as being of regional koala significance, forms part of a key wildlife corridor that provides AWC ecologists with access to gather critical data and conduct biodiversity monitoring to protect the species. With continued support, AWC plans to expand and develop this work this year.
