Our water industry is in desperate need of reform. In the last decade, sewage pollution has become a huge environmental and public health issue. Water companies indiscriminately discharge raw sewage, and the governance to hold them accountable just isn’t working. Legislation to protect us and our waters is failing too. Bathing sites across the UK are polluted with sewage, drugs and pesticides, putting us all at risk. Our wild waters need us – help us fix our broken water system.
Last year’s epic community campaigning made the Government commit to cleaning up UK waters. We’ll ensure it keeps its promises by: • Working with communities to influence the Government to adopt the roadmap we’ve put together with experts on what a sustainable water system should look like • Helping communities to campaign for robust changes to water policies and regulations • Enabling citizen scientists to gather evidence on water quality and ensuring water company data is publicly available.
