Our program will reduce poverty, protect biodiversity & build climate change resilience by training forest-reliant Malagasy farmers in restorative agriculture. Families will develop sustainable livelihoods, protect forests, and reverse negative impacts of deforestation on their fragile forest homes.

Situation
Madagascar's exceptional biodiversity and high proportion of unique plant and animal species (80%) make it a top priority for nature conservation. However, despite significant efforts, Madagascar has the 4th highest rate of deforestation in the world, driven by widespread, abject rural poverty. 81% of rural households live on less than £1.50 per day. Those living around forest margins depend on clearing forests to meet their basic needs (agricultural land, timber & firewood).
Solution
Madagascar's unique ecology must be protected, and Malagasy people require and deserve decent living standards. We know these aims are not only vital and desirable, they can be achieved together. We will train & support farmers around vital Malagasy rainforests, to help them develop & adopt restorative approaches to food production, protecting natural forest, and converting degraded land to productive edible forests, a sustainable source of food and income for local people.
