LYC is a place where you can learn, thrive and excel; a place of acceptance and encouragement where your voice means everything. We work with 3000 young people each year, creating community through choir. Funds raised will support us to remove barriers to music-making for more young people.

Decades of underfunded music education have severely damaged access to music for many young people. Schools in disadvantaged areas are the worst hit, many of them not able to provide any meaningful ensemble music. Young people are not only missing out on musical learning, but are deprived of the social benefits too, resulting in reduced opportunities to thrive. The Child Poverty Action Group reports that this crisis of provision ‘is preventing pupils in low-income families from flourishing.’

LYC’s aim is to combine musical excellence and social change: through our ten choirs and free programmes in schools, we help thousands of young Londoners each year access the joys and benefits of singing. We particularly work to improve pathways for disadvantaged young people, supporting them to find their unique voice and to thrive through music. Every week, LYC’s team of musical leaders make a real difference to the lives & ambitions of young Londoners, and donations will help us do more.
