Help Lancashire Wildlife Trust purchase more conservation cows to restore and manage rare and threatened habitats across our region. Replicating the role once played by wild herbivores, grazing animals are a vital land management resource for the promotion of biodiversity and species recovery.

Lancashire’s vital habitats, such as wetlands, grasslands, and heathlands, are at risk of ecological degradation due to overgrowth and invasive plant species. Without effective management, these habitats lose their ability to support species like lapwings, snipe, otters, and many kinds of grass, flowers and invertebrates. Current conservation grazing is effective but limited by the size of our herd & infrastructure, restricting the number of sites we can maintain, and also the time at each site.

With your support, we will purchase more cows and for our grazing herd, allowing us to manage more reserves sustainably. Conservation grazing creates a mosaic of habitats by controlling overgrowth, reducing invasive species, and improving soil and plant health. This natural management technique directly supports a diverse range of species and enhances the ecological value of our reserves. By integrating them into our existing herd, we can scale up our sustainable land management practices
