Situation
Spanning almost half of Scotland, the Scottish Highlands and Islands are famous for their rich biodiversity, rare flora and fauna, and intricate marine ecosystems. Sadly, recent decades have seen a dramatic and alarming reduction in the numbers and varieties of plants and animals which call this area home. Faced with this loss of biodiversity, increasing numbers of local communities are developing and implementing innovative locally-appropriate solutions - they just need some extra support.
Solution
The Highlands & Islands Environment Foundation awards grants of between £5,000 & £15,000 to support community-led projects which will restore and regenerate the area's natural beauty, biodiversity and ecosystems, amid unprecedented wildlife and climate challenges.
