The magic of theatre should be accessible to everyone. In 2024, we had 16 accessible performances but we want to aim higher. With the Big Give, we would make subsidised accessible shows a core part of our programme enabling more people to access LAT than ever before.

Situation
There are approximately 8,000 people aged 0-25 with special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) in Islington. Since the pandemic, it has been increasingly difficult for families to access support and resources. Moreover, the strain put on Islington schools has increased with more children requiring education, health and care plans, largely due to SEND. Families are therefore forced to withdraw from community programmes to prioritise core needs, leading to a lower quality of life.
Solution
We offer relaxed performances where attendance is limited to 80% and sound and lighting levels are adjusted. These performances are heavily subsidised to enable people to feel more able to engage as the standard price might be a further barrier to them. We also offer BSL interpreted performances ensuring D/deaf audiences can fully engage with the performance. Both of these accessible performances enable us to have a wider reach and improve the creative enrichment for those with SEND.
