Rural communities in Ghana have poor access to electricity which means schools go without power, and people pay for dirty, expensive diesel systems. Solar power has huge potential in Ghana to lift people out of power poverty. The Dream Renewables programme works hard to capture this potential, but we lack the resources to respond to community needs at the necessary pace and scale. We cannot empower people who know best what their communities need, without readily available funding.

Each year we train over 500 people across Ghana. Afterwards, we support them to identify where solar power is most needed in their communities. Eg. in Barekese, a community in the Ashanti region of Ghana, trainees have identified the need for reliable power for a community library and IT lab shared by 10 schools. With this solar fund, we can start working on the best projects quickly, capturing the enthusiasm of trainees and providing the expertise and funds to turn these ideas into reality.
