Footpaths in Eryri (Snowdonia) are now being eroded at an alarming rate, with bare earth scars up to 30m wide and gullies 5m deep, trampled vegetation, loss of wildlife habitat and soil run off into water systems, affecting marine ecosystems and reducing carbon storage. This is down to extreme weather, hand in hand with increasing visitor numbers. Our footpaths need more repair and maintenance than ever before to limit this damage to the environment - requiring skilled labour and volunteers.

By providing the funding for the employment of an apprentice ranger for 2 years in partnership with the BMC Access & Conservation Trust and the National Trust. The apprentice will learn practical footpath repair and conservation skills in environmentally sensitive upland areas at a time when they are most needed, taking these essential skills into the next generation. They'll also lead, skill-up and educate volunteer footpath & conservation work, helping to repair hundreds of paths.
