Help us launch a new programme of drop-in gardening sessions on Hampstead Heath specifically tailored towards families, giving people the opportunity to engage with nature and spend time outdoors.

Situation
Access to green space is not distributed equally: over 38% of the UK population lacks access to nature. For people in urban areas like London, with lower incomes or from ethnic minority groups this is higher. There are often complex societal barriers preventing people visiting green spaces, like access issues, care/family responsibilities or lack of time. We currently don’t have the capacity to run flexible volunteering options, so certain parts of the community aren’t able to take part.
Solution
Running flexible drop-in sessions specifically for families will help encourage people who are time-poor, don’t spend much time in nature, or those who cannot commit to our regular volunteering, the chance to get active outdoors and contribute to conserving Hampstead Heath. The practical tasks will be flexible, adapted to the needs of the participants. Importantly, these will be free, running on different days of the week, often after work or school to help reduce barriers to participation.
