With your help we can reduce flood damage by planting trees, hedges & natural buffer strips to trap & soak up water on land. Severe floods are happening more & causing erosion, biodiversity loss, pollution & property damage. Please fund more planting to protect the Lake District from flash flooding.

Situation
The Lake District is experiencing intense & unprecedented rainfall - leading to rapid run-off of water & flash flooding. Damaging to land, nature & livelihoods. Climate change is increasing the speed & volume of water flow, making flash floods more damaging. Flooding causes soil erosion, loss of vegetation, upland paths & poor water quality. Damaging fragile, natural habitats - affecting wildlife, biodiversity, farming, heritage & people in this beautiful landscape. But nature has the answer...
Solution
Creating upland defences against flash flooding through nature-based planting, community engagement, partnerships & training. Key actions: - Planting hedges, trees & riparian boundaries for natural flash flood management. - Workshops, learning & surveys to share best practices, gathering community support. - Creating more accurate & accessible flood maps & sharing interactive tools. - Exploring new funding options & providing technical support. - Building a network of local citizen scientists.
