Rangers are on the front line of conservation across Asia, dedicated to protecting some of the most endangered wildlife and habitat on the planet. We are proud to have funded some brilliant projects supporting these community rangers but there are many more in need of equipment and training.

Across Asia, many rangers work in extreme and remote environments in sometimes dangerous circumstances. Often they are unable to access the training and equipment they need. Most are community rangers, many are volunteers. Last year, 74 rangers in Asia were killed in accidents, fires, homicide incidents and sometimes by the very wildlife they were dedicated to protecting. In many cases, the provision of basic equipment or training would enable these rangers to work more safely and effectively.

We fund small projects delivered by trusted on ground partners, who listen to rangers and their communities and provide what they need to protect their local wildlife and habitat. For example, recently we funded wildlife monitoring technology in Sumatra, patrol equipment such as boots, backpacks and torches in Cambodia and uniforms and tools in Sri Lanka. Having appropriate clothing, PPE, equipment and training improves ranger safety and morale, leading to better conservation effectiveness.
