ARDENT8 is an 18-month programme of workshops, mentoring and performance opportunities to support 8 young actors from low income backgrounds outside of London. We are seeking support to produce a new short 75-minute play to be performed by our ensemble of actors in London for 1-week Autumn 2025.

Each year, hundreds of young aspiring actors graduate to find there are limited or no cultural opportunities to pursue their careers locally. These are young people who have a specific talent but lack the financial means to relocate or even afford the train fare to audition so they can utilise their skills and training to gain employment. The acting industry is weighted in favour of those who have money. As a result, working-class artists in the industry has halved in the last 50 years.

This project gives our ensemble of 8 young graduates an experience of working as professional actors in London. For most, it will be their first professionally paid acting job. The production will run for 1-week (8 performances) in a London venue and provide an essential showcase to promote themselves to directors, agents and casting directors. We pay 5% above minimum recommended wages and cover all travel and accommodation costs. We offer pay-what-you-can tickets for low-income audiences.
