Situation
Water companies and intensive agricultural corporations are polluting rivers to the brink of collapse. Every water company is being investigated for illegally pumping sewage into rivers, and two thirds of dairy farms breach regulations. They get away with it and Government agencies responsible for protecting rivers are letting them by not enforcing the law. Our legal actions have stopped polluters before. We plan to do more legal campaigning to clean up our waterways for wildlife and people.
Solution
Last year we took the Government to court for failing to enforce law with intensive chicken factories. This led to the government changing its guidance on polluting agricultural practices and should lead to increased enforcement actions to protect rivers. We have other cases in Shropshire and against Ofwat which will achieve similar impact. We also recently hired a Head of Legal to investigate new legal actions. But litigation is expensive and we need your support to keep up the fight.
