Cool Earth fights the climate crisis by protecting one of the most efficient carbon-storing technologies we have: rainforests. The best way to do this is to support Indigenous peoples who live there. With their expert knowledge and our support, they can protect their homes and keep our planet cool.

Situation
Climate change is causing rising temperatures and unprecedented extreme weather globally. Ending this crisis is simple, keep carbon out of our atmosphere. Luckily, technology that stores carbon on a magnificent scale already exists: rainforests. Yet, millions of hectares of forests are destroyed each year. The best protectors of rainforests are the people who live there. But too often, climate injustices and financial hardship force rainforest families to sell their land and trees to survive.
Solution
We work directly with Indigenous communities living in the Peruvian Amazon. Supporting and respecting their rights is essential in protecting rainforests. We deliver cash and support to ease financial hardship which in turn reduces pressure to sell land as a last resort for much-needed cash. Whether it's providing a basic income, preventing wildfire or creating income generation projects. When rainforest communities have backing, our data shows they can protect up to three times more forest.
