In 2025 many young people face a disconnection with nature, often caused by increased screen time, urban living, poverty, disability and reduced access to outdoor spaces. This lack of interaction with the environment can lead to physical and mental health challenges, such as obesity, stress, and diminished creativity. Additionally, it may hinder environmental stewardship, as youth fail to build a meaningful connection with the planet, impacting their motivation to protect it in the future.

Following consultation with young people, we want to develop an accessible and sustainable outdoor learning space at Lockerbrook Farm. This will enable more children and young people to engage in outdoor adventures and environmental activities. Providing opportunities to play in and learn about the environment through bushcraft, outdoor cooking, environmental art, storytelling, hiking and more.
