Our project is a four-year initiative aimed at restoring and protecting 55 hectares of key natural habitats in the Walsall area, focusing on the globally rare lowland heathland, and reconnecting local communities with nature, with at least 50,000 local people directly benefitting.

Situation
Walsall’s natural habitats, including lowland heathlands, are under severe threat from urban expansion, pollution, and neglect, which has led to significant habitat fragmentation and biodiversity decline, exacerbated by climate risks. Without immediate action, these valuable habitats and species could be lost entirely. Also, local communities have limited access to green spaces, contributing to poor mental and physical health outcomes- exacerbating the borough’s significant health inequalities.
Solution
Through four interconnected project components: conversation works, community engagement, advocacy and project management, we will restore native biodiversity. By revitalising neglected landscapes into vibrant heathland, we will counteract habitat fragmentation and degradation, creating robust ecosystems that can adapt to climate challenges. By increasing community access to green spaces, we will tackle health inequalities in Walsall, while fostering environmental stewardship.
