Supporting Leeds Playhouse’s work with young people across Leeds, providing them with opportunities to build their confidence, find their voice and realise their potential. With many creative outlets for young people falling away, we provide a safe and welcoming creative space for young people.

We know that having a safe and welcoming creative space is invaluable for young people in improving their mental health. Our project teams acknowledge that the young people we work with are facing the long-term impact of the Covid-19 pandemic which negatively impacted their lives and education. For example, the prolonged social isolation still impacts the young people we work with, with many young people who attend sessions struggling with their confidence and self-esteem.

Our work with young people is designed to reach those who may not have access to the arts. Across our projects including our Youth Theatre, our Hearts Youth group for young people who are refugees or seeking asylum and our Buzz programme for learning-disabled young people work together to develop their creativity and explore who they want to be in a safe and supportive environment. We believe that the creative enrichment we provide is crucial in improving the mental health of young people.
