Situation
From our experience we know across Scotland, there is a widening inequity in primary school music education provision due to budget constraints, shortage of music teachers, timetable, pressures on the school day, pandemic recovery and a lack of wider opportunities. These matters are compounded by limited access in rural areas, socio-economic challenges and areas where engagement in the arts is limited or low. Our 'Glee Challenge' framework and events are helping to address these problems
Solution
Our 'Glee Challenge' supports sustainable singing, dancing and performance for children. We do this by providing on-line song, dance/performance materials including BSL signing resources and in-person workshops for choir leaders. Our show choir framework of event heats, regional finals and National Final provide unique, engaging performance opportunities for children of all abilities. We are building our support for children in rural, socio-economically deprived or low-arts engagement areas
