Situation
Your Voice, Your Holmfirth report 2023 highlights loss of connection, social isolation and lack of access for people with mobility issues to arts, social life and green spaces. In the Kirklees District 1 in 5 adults report depression, anxiety or nervous illness, 1 in 10 people have a physical or sensory impairment, 1 in 3 people suffer from a limiting long-term condition, over 50% of people are overweight or obese and 23% of people in the Holme Valley reported not having someone to talk to.
Solution
We will develop connection and belonging by profiling stories and harnessing creativity in the co-creation of a pageant with 7 hyperlocal communities, bringing all 7 together at the Festival. We will engage socially isolated/disabled people in a range of creative community activities between June - Sept 2025 through a co-created River of Art trail; mobility aided/guided accessible sensory walks; access support for our free and ticketed programme and by taking the arts to residential care homes.
