Our annual summer youth theatre programme provides disadvantaged young people in the London Borough of Hackney with positive engagement to fill the vacuum of structure and activity provided by school. Participation is free and we provide lunch for all participants.

The young people we work with face many problems: social and economic deprivation, racism, poor self-esteem, low aspiration around educational achievement and employment possibilities. Our Youth Theatre programme uses drama to support the journey of these young people from being at high risk of disengagement and social isolation to participating in activities that build skills and self-esteem, realise their potential and bring communities together.
In addition to our nine weekly youth theatres on Hackney housing estates, we provide positive activities in the summer holidays when there is greater risk of young people being drawn into anti-social behaviour. During drama sessions, participants develop listening and speaking skills, focus and teamwork. In a supportive environment, they learn to take risks, make mistakes and try again. They articulate their ideas and craft these into a performance which celebrates their achievement.
