Support our much-loved Creative Café workshops that help people living with dementia & their carers by engaging them in a welcoming, stimulating environment. These specially designed, multi-sensory workshops encourage the group to socialise & be inspired creatively by our exhibitions & garden.

The erosive, isolating nature of dementia to both the people living with it & those who care for them is clear & well known. 2023 research by Wakefield JSNA showed that the district has a higher rate of people with early onset dementia than the national average (4.4 vs 3.05 per 10k). Recent research by the University of Derby showed the significant benefits of creative activities for people with dementia – delaying cognitive & motor skill decline, as well as improving well-being & relationships.

Our stimulating & welcoming Creative Café sessions use creative activities to help participants connect with one another &unlock memories. Through monthly artist-led multi-sensory workshops at our gallery & outreach activities at local partner sites, the programme improves communication skills, cognitive function, confidence & quality of life. We work with local partners to improve provision across the district, & next year will target support to help those with early onset dementia.
