Many children do not experience the countryside and have never visited a heathland, woodland or beach. This project helps support primary schools in areas of deprivation to provide days of learning outside in the beautiful South Downs National Park with coach transport and specialist trainers.

Situation
Many people in the UK never step out into the natural environment and many children have never visited a heathland, woodland or beach. One of our key activities is helping to deliver opportunities for children to enjoy connecting with nature and to experience the physical, mental and emotional health benefits of being outdoors in beautiful countryside. Through our surveys, schools have let us know that they need support in order to do day trips away from school for their pupils.
Solution
It is now widely acknowledged that teaching outside the classroom contributes positively to healthy lifestyles, improves learning outcomes / attainment and wellbeing. We learn to love nature as children. We now offer to schools in deprived areas, within 10 miles of the South Downs National Park, fully funded day trips to the National Park. This includes coach transport and an outdoor education provider. Requests from qualifying schools is very high and will outstrip funds available for 2025.
