All around us music venues are closing, meaning less opportunities for us to enjoy live music as audience members, for musicians to perform, or for people to make a living within the music business. With your help we can make sure that grassroots and live music still has a home here at the Subs!

There were only 960 grassroots music venues in 2022, but that number dropped by another 125 in 2023, with another 72 Grassroots Music Venues significantly reducing or ending their live music offer. (Guardian Jan 2024.) This has resulted in a drastic reduction in opportunities for: audience members to share the exhilaration, joy and shared experience that music brings; musicians to perform; new talent to emerge: and people to develop skills, experience and consider careers in the sector.

We are passionate about keeping live music alive! We work with a broad range of artists, from up-and-coming to international stars. With this project we wish to keep doors to live music open through: • a programme of affordable live music events for our community to enjoy • paid opportunities for local musicians to play • free and open access jamming/music making sessions • workshops and visits for local schools and colleges • opportunities to showcase and promote grassroots talent.
