Our Associate Schools Programme (ASP) offers transformative learning experiences for young people in hard-to-reach areas across England. Our award-winning work improves literacy, learning outcomes and a child’s self-belief, an essential element that will support them their whole life long.

Situation
Thousands of young people nationwide are disengaged with or uninspired by their learning. Their enjoyment of writing is at its lowest since 2005 and 46% of disadvantaged 11-year-olds in England left school in 2022 unable to write at the expected level. This disengagement with learning directly impacts the aspiration and achievement of young people and their opportunities for future education and employment. It can also damage social relationships and the connection they have to their community.
Solution
We know that our approaches to education have significantly improved learning outcomes in areas of structural disadvantage where the percentages of children meeting expected standards were well below the national average (68% reaching expected standards against a national average of 74%). For example, our work in Middlesbrough schools shows 90% of children are now meeting expected standards. To support a further 50,000 young people, we’re extending the ASP to another 100 schools by April 2026.
