Olympias is fundraising to support children from low-income households in Manchester, who have limited access to music lessons and cultural experiences. Funds will enable activities so each child can enjoy music-making as a collective - with their peers, their parents, and in their communities.

Despite Manchester's rich musical heritage, there remains a significant gap in access to music education for children from low-income households. With music no longer a core part of school curriculum, children in Longsight are being denied the invaluable personal, social, & well-being benefits that music provides, particularly in a group setting. There is also a huge underrepresentation of classical musicians from Global Majority backgrounds, and from areas of socio-economic disadvantage.

£10k during our 10th birthday year will support group activities for children who already receive free weekly 1:1 instrumental lessons with Olympias. Funds will provide activities such as orchestras, termly concerts, and workshops with their peers and families. Group participation will enhance each child's confidence, well-being, social development, and improve their teamwork & communication as music-makers. All children have financial barriers and 93% are from Global Majority backgrounds.
