Our mission at Bristol Avon Rivers Trust is to restore our living rivers into thriving habitats for wildlife and local communities, reconnect people to their green and blue spaces, increase climate resilience and work with farmers to promote river-friendly practices.

Situation
Only 12% of waterbodies in the Bristol Avon catchment achieve Good Ecological Status, and all fail for Chemical status (Water Framework Directive). The threats our rivers face include rural and urban runoff, habitat loss, Ecological and Climate emergencies. Many communities find themselves disconnected from their local river. Our mission is to inspire action, reversing these trends to create healthy rivers where wildlife and communities can thrive.
Solution
BART undertakes surveys to identify river health issues and improvement opportunities, engages farmers in river-friendly practices, designs and delivers wetlands to capture runoff, restores river channels, removes barriers, and collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders to enhance urban rivers and blue-green spaces for people and wildlife.
