The UK is rich in biodiversity, home to species and habitats rare or not found elsewhere. A Rocha UK is helping to protect 25 declining species, taxonomic groups and habitats through its Target 25 project, supporting churches and Christian charities with land, to manage their land for nature.

UK nature is under threat and in urgent need of more support. 1 in 6 species is at risk of being lost from Great Britain, studied species have on average declined by 19% in the UK since 1970, and most of the important habitats for the UK’s nature are in poor condition. This threatens the economy, human health and wellbeing, and the survival of many species. Churches and charities with land are increasingly open to action but need support. Our Target 25 project gives them that support.

Through our Target 25 project, we train and support 56 partner Christian charities and organisations with land, and many of the 8,000 local churches participating in our Eco Church programme, to preserve at least one Target 25. Once trained, participants are able to monitor numbers of species, and track improvements in populations in response to the work done to care for the species on site. This informs further land management plans created in the years to come.
