The Clay Foundation trades as the British Ceramics Biennial (BCB). We develop, sustain & expand innovative ceramics practice & improve lives together with artists & creative communities. We deliver an engaging year-round programme, which feeds into a festival of contemporary ceramics.

BCB work with communities responding to urgent local needs linked to community cohesion and skills and learning. Stoke-on-Trent is the 12th most deprived local authority in England and has one of the highest rates of people on low pay and with low skills. This impacts children and young people in the city and can limit their opportunities to engage with arts and heritage and develop their own creativity.

BCB recognizes needs within communities that can be positively benefited through targeted & expertly-delivered engagement with clay & contemporary art practice. Our year-round learning programme works with children to enable wider participation in hands-on clay activities, learning about local heritage and championing clay as an innovative material. Young people are encouraged to explore creative career pathways, build skills & develop self-confidence that impacts other areas of their learning.
