The sale of Rothbury Estate in Northumberland, including the much-loved Simonside Hills, represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for nature's recovery on a grand scale. Stretching over 3,800 hectares, the estate could be a safe haven to wildlife like red squirrels, golden eagles and curlew. This precious place is at risk of being broken up into multiple ownerships, jeopardising public access and driving wildlife decline. We must act now to preserve it and ensure its long-term protection.

The Wildlife Trusts and Northumberland Wildlife Trust will secure the future of Rothbury Estate by raising £30 million to purchase and protect the land. We will restore and enhance vital habitats, such as peatlands, woodlands and wetlands, where wildlife will thrive. Through pioneering regenerative agriculture and improving public access, we will create a sustainable future for local farmers and people, while making a vital contribution to a 40-mile wildlife corridor across Northern England.
