Gosforth Civic Theatre is a fringe theatre in Newcastle. We are here because a group of people with learning disabilities wanted to open a theatre for everyone to enjoy. GCT brings people together and shows what people with learning disabilities can contribute to society. Amazing, inclusive, impact.

Historically, people of all ages with learning disabilities have faced poor life chances, largely due to social exclusion. Society has created places for people with learning disabilities to go, this has meant they are often segregated with few opportunities to demonstrate social worth. They’ve struggled with acceptance; facing stigmatisation, prejudice and fear. Members of the public have few or no opportunities to get to know people with learning disabilities & misconceptions have developed.
Our mission is to raise everyone's expectations of what people with learning disabilities can achieve. We run Gosforth Civic Theatre; a 200 seat theatre & café that provides opportunities to bring people with learning disabilities and members of the public together. “We wanted to provide something for the community, instead of it being the other way around… here people can see that we’ve got skills, that we can be useful" - Ed, Founding Company Member, and Trustee with lived experience.
