shiftED deliver designing and making projects to children and young people in Camden. Over a project of around 20 hours, over a number of sessions, they research, design and make something. Along the way, they develop skills, learn to use tools, solve problems, work collaboratively and have fun.

shiftED addresses the decline in art and design technology education as schools struggle to offer high-quality creative experiences due to an overcrowded curriculum. The decline in the number of students studying in the arts impacts pathways into the creative sector. An arts-based curriculum is essential for fostering problem-solving skills essential for personal and professional success, along with nurturing emotional expression, cultural awareness and contributing meaningfully to society.

Our projects begin with a design brief, guiding students through exploration, design, and making processes, many of which culminate in public exhibitions. By embedding art, design, and making into children's lives, we ensure that these activities are perceived as serious, relatable, and valuable. We use participation in design, making, and the arts as a crucial mechanism to increase access, inclusion, and diversity in these fields, while promoting pathways into the creative industries.
