Firstsite would like to expand its peer-led inclusive safe and inspiring space for young people which offers a supportive environment to gain experience, develop confidence, learn new skills and the potential to progress personal creative projects. We’re thrilled — and completely overwhelmed — to have already reached our match funding target! Your incredible generosity continues to amaze us — supporters like you have kept giving, and we’re already £240 over our target! But while the target has been met, the need doesn’t stop — and neither do we. Although new donations won’t be doubled, every single gift over our target will help us reach even more people and do even more to share the life-changing benefits of art. Together, we can expand our work — bringing creativity, inspiration, and the wellbeing that art offers to even more people in our community, and empower everyone to build skills and resilience to lead healthier and happier lives. Thank you for being part of this amazing journey. Let’s keep going — please help us open up even more creative opportunities before our campaign closes at midday tomorrow!”

Opportunities for young people, particularly those in their late teens and early twenties, to take part in the Arts, and pursue creative careers is under more threat now than ever before. Young people from backgrounds that are underrepresented in the Arts face the greatest barriers to accessing the Arts and developing creative careers and experience the largest impacts to their wellbeing and social mobility. They are also less likely to receive support to develop their creativity and careers.

Firstsite will expand and develop its YAK programme into a year-long opportunity delivering mentoring and accreditation (Arts Awards) through working with artists who will support the young to undertake individual and group development opportunities that will build skills and knowledge and test ways of working. Through this expanded programme YAK members will develop their own creative work, programme and curate activity for other young people at Firstsite that will become a YAK season.
