Humankind’s impact on South Georgia has been devastating for its wildlife. Only now are we reversing that damage - we have eradicated introduced rats and mice which preyed on native birds for decades, and whales are finally returning to the island’s waters after commercial whaling took them to the brink of extinction last century. But we can't be complacent. New threats now loom on the road to recovery, including warming oceans, increased ship traffic and the recent arrival of Avian influenza.

With your help, we will support international research and conservation projects to protect species ranging from albatrosses to penguins and whales. We will work with the South Georgia Government to ensure their biosecurity dog team can keep the island rodent-free. Looking ahead, we are on a mission to update the population estimates of South Georgia’s whales, seals and birds. We want to establish an improved wildlife monitoring programme to inform future conservation of this unique ecosystem.
