Situation
In 2022 we witnessed the impact of rising costs and family services under strain in our city. Nottingham Contemporary wanted to ensure we could open our doors to those most impacted in our communities and started our BIG Room series as part of the national Warm Hubs initiative. Three years on, sadly not much has changed and our communities still need a welcoming space to enjoy a meaningful sense of community in the darkest, coldest months of the year with connections being needed more than ever.
Solution
BIG Room is now a free, annual family film series for those most in need from across Nottingham City communities. They enjoy a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere and make connections with others through creative activities and watching a classic family film together in our large performance space. Free hot drinks and snacks are available, with other partnerships providing limited free bus travel, and second-hand clothing is also free to take away, creating a genuine and supportive community spirit.
