Children from low income households are less likely to have books at home or read for pleasure, which on average can impact their language development by 10 months. Being inspired through a live author, literary experience can increase reading for pleasure from 39% to 59% (NLT). Our charity seeks to give such experiences through author/illustrator visits and this new, more participative project, hopefully will make them more likely to pursue creative arts and/or to have a connection with nature.

We'll foster confidence, creativity and a love of books in local children from low income families by co-creating a stunning non-fiction picture book that goes on sale nationwide. It'll be launched by a programme of festival and school events. In addition, it'll foster the children's connection with nature, and spread awareness that only 14% of the UK's waterways are in good ecological health and engage readers with actions they can take. Aligns with our mission: Opening Books, Inspiring Minds
