Open Up will facilitate creative opportunities for young people – opening up the creative industries to them in terms of wellbeing, life skills and careers. It will connect young people across Havant, providing shared ambition, agency and ownership of their communities through the performing arts.

Situation
Many young people can’t access creative opportunities due to rising costs, arts cuts and accessibility. For young people within Havant Borough this is particularly acute as a number of the areas fall within the lowest 20% of deprivation in England. Data shows that the life satisfaction of young people from these areas is low and their aspirations are limited. Through arts and cultural activity, we empower the people of Havant to learn new skills, discover new ideas and find new futures.
Solution
We will work with a group of young people aged 14-18, to co-curate and organise free workshops and talks from local and national artists, producers and promoters that highlight the range of roles and opportunities within the sector, raising aspiration in the children and young people participating. We will organise and facilitate visits to live performances and cultural experiences to build their connection to their wider area and diversify their experiences of the creative industries.
