Many women’s lives in Central America are dominated by patriarchal societies & climate change. Female land defenders are excluded, threatened & struggle to secure funds & to develop projects. Amos’ Climate Fellowship provides training, startup grants & a network of women activists & land defenders.

Climate change is devastating communities in Central America due to flooding, landslides and food insecurity. Women are most impacted by climate change due to their occupations and domestic responsibilities. However in traditional patriarchal societies women have few rights and are excluded from taking climate action. Women land defenders are often isolated and have to challenge corruption, vested interests and even the cartels in order to create change and safeguard their environments.

The Climate Fellowship trains, supports & provides start up funds to young female climate activists in Central America. In 2024, 12 young women received training & £2,000 grants to set up their own climate projects. These projects included promoting indigenous local knowledge, water conservation, recovery of natural habitats & standing against mass polluters. We are recruiting 12 more for 2025. The Fellowship's network tackles the isolation many face & is a forum for training & shared learning.
