Situation
Gwent's wildlife continues to face growing threats including from development, pollution and poor land management. Whilst national designations - like SSSIs - provide some legal safeguards, many vital habitats fall outside these protections leaving them vulnerable and unmonitored. Damage to these hidden ecosystems often goes unnoticed, with countless plants and animals already lost - some we may never even discover. It's time to address these gaps and protect all of Gwent's hidden havens.
Solution
Our Local Wildlife Site project aims to shine a light on these hidden spaces, by recording wildlife and habitat quality, and advising on land management for nature. Your support directly enables us to protect more vulnerable sites as well as revisit known ones to ensure they are still being managed for wildlife. Local Wildlife Sites are vital to connect legally protected sites, helping combat an increasingly fragmented ecological network, providing a landscape rich in wildlife.
