Situation
Marine life is under pressure from multiple inter-related major threats including overharvesting, sedimentation and pollution, invasive species, plastic pollution and climate change. There is also a lack of awareness across community and faith groups, schools and fisher-groups about the vast amount of damage being done both directly and indirectly to marine ecosystems. Those who are aware may not have the tools, knowledge, or theology to take effective action.
Solution
We will train, advise and fund marine teams tracking habitat and marine life through long-term surveying and data collection and initiate two vital projects to address species and habitat loss. We will grow marine conservation via environmental education training, community work with livelihood groups, community activities such as beach cleanups and nurdle hunts, and publications for churches on marine conservation and faith.
