A year-long programme aimed at bringing the arts closer to primary school students in Gloucester. We partner with exceptional artists and schools to bring 3 terms of theatre, dance and music which raise confidence, aspiration and wellbeing in the children living in areas of high deprivation.

Situation
Access to arts and culture for young people is at an all time low. The drop in school spending per pupil is at its largest for 40 years (IFS data, 2023). The schools we are working with are in need of provision but simply don’t have the resources for high-quality cultural provision. We also know that the wellbeing of our young people in Gloucester is in crisis. Gloucestershire Pupil Wellbeing Survey 2022 showed that wellbeing had significantly reduced in children and young people since 2020.
Solution
We will partner with schools in the Barton and Tredworth area over one year to offer three terms of cultural practice in Theatre, Dance and Music. We will partner with high quality national companies and artists who will work with the children to co-create pieces of art (previously this has included Multi-Story Orchestra, ACE Dance and Music and Kid Carpet). Through the activity, the children have access to 2 hours a week of high-quality culture provision free of charge.
