World Book Day champions the fun of reading, because it seriously improves children’s lives. Reading for fun is the single biggest indicator that a child will grow up to enjoy a happier and more successful life, but right now only 1 in 3 children enjoy reading

Situation
Reading for pleasure can help overcome early disadvantage. It brings benefits to children’s learning across the curriculum, their wellbeing and creativity. We’ve reached a reading crisis. World Book Day’s research shows children think reading is something they have to do – not what they want to do. World Book Day is here to do something about it. We believe children are more likely to read if they enjoy it!
Solution
World Book Day champions the fun of reading, because it seriously improves children’s lives. Finding fun in reading unlocks all the benefits it brings. Children are more likely to read if they think they’ll enjoy it, so we make reading feel entertaining, social and a fun thing to do. We give children agency and encourage them to express themselves through reading. Our joyful annual event and our year-round support for families and partners helps children find reasons to enjoy reading.
