Limited exposure to technical theatre careers, heightened by the pandemic, along with regional disparities in resources and opportunities, leaves many young people unaware of alternative pathways into theatre. The lack of paid placements makes work experience inaccessible. Live theatre cannot exist without a skilled technical team, and its future depends on access, opportunity and exposure to these roles.

New Adventures will expand its technical placements programme following a successful pilot, which saw 30 placements offered across regional venues during our ongoing Swan Lake: The Next Generation UK tour. High-quality, hands-on placements with our experienced technical teams offers young people entering the profession, or people looking to change their career, the opportunity to explore alternative roots into the industry.
