We believe that all children in North Devon should have free access to art and creative activities. Burton Futures will remove economic barriers to ensure that young people can engage with world-class art as part of their education.

We believe that free access to arts activities helps to bridge the inequality gap and rural isolation faced by children and young families in North Devon. Many schools are struggling with less funding, time and expertise to connect young people to art through the curriculum. We are seeing an increasing demand for our education programme, but also a significant gap between schools who can afford to bring their pupils to visit The Burton and those who can’t.

We will remove the economic barrier by offering bursaries to schools across North Devon who aren’t normally able to visit The Burton. This will fund coach hire and artist-led workshops for classes visiting the gallery, or can support The Burton Art Box to visit schools with an artist to lead sessions. The Burton Teachers Network will support teachers to work with us to develop new skills, confidence and ideas on how to connect their pupils to art.
