Sewage discharged into our oceans also contains a toxic soup of chemicals. Some of these, unlike human waste, don’t break down – they last forever, building up over time in wildlife, the ocean and our bodies. Help us demand the changes that will stop them ever reaching the sea.

Our oceans, and the marine life that calls them home, are struggling. Chemical pollution makes marine wildlife more vulnerable to the effects of climate change, habitat loss and infectious disease. ‘Forever’ chemicals arrive in the sea mainly through sewage pollution, leaching from landfill sites, and road run-off. Species throughout the marine ecosystem are affected and will be for generations. Marine restoration projects will be undermined by contaminents in the water surrounding them.

We’ll collect evidence to show the extent of some forever chemicals in our seas. We’ll demand stronger regulation from Governments to regulate their use – working to stop them at source. It shouldn’t be up to consumers to find products that don’t contain toxic chemicals – they shouldn’t be on sale. And we’ll raise awareness of forever chemicals so that everyone can join our calls for protection for the ocean, marine wildlife, the livelihoods of coastal communities, and the health of us all.
