This RSF Music for Young Patients Programme provides access to weekly music lessons for 8-18 year olds who have medical conditions that mean they need to shield at home, have limited access to activities due to medical issues or whose well-being or mental-health would improve.

Young people with long term health conditions have limited opportunities to take part in music-making activities, particularly if they are immunocompromised, are periodically forced to spend time in hospital or find it difficult to travel. Along with the need to “shield” whilst undergoing specific treatments, experiencing ongoing health conditions along with the pressure of managing schoolwork and attending medical appointments can also lead to feelings of anxiety and depression.

Working alongside the Imperial Health Trust’s Paediatric department, we provide individual online music tuition via Zoom to the young patients referred to us by clinical staff who are in a position to identify those patients who would benefit the most. With a wide range of tutors and a flexible schedule, we are able to offer free weekly lessons on the piano, guitar, singing, drums and music production in a familiar and risk-free home environment.
